I support the caring work of Amitabha Hospice Service (AHS). Its support for elderly & those who are very unwell is invaluable and appreciated by many Auckland families.

I salute the well trained AHS volunteer caregivers who tirelessly give exhausted families hours of respite by providing in-house care for those ill.
The caregivers are multi-cultural and multi-lingual, which is vital given Auckland’s diversity.

Community and hospital workers regard AHS as an organisation of repute.
Without doubt, it is a unique service that has served Auckland well for seven years.

1. I have used the volunteer service available from Amitabha Hospice for the past four years. Feedback from clients on services provided has always been positive. Clients have found volunteers to be sensitive, compassionate, reliable and responsible in their approach.

2. Amitabha Hospice tends to fill a gap where no other existing service is available in the community, especially in the area of volunteer services to clients with ongoing chronic health conditions.

3. Responses from Amitabha in following up on referrals made have always been efficient.

4. All possible attempts are made to match up clients with volunteers who are culturally appropriate. This is especially significant for immigrants and refugees who may experience problems with communication and language, social isolation and adjustment within the community.

5. Amitabha’s holistic approach ensures that the clients cultural, physical, emotional and spiritual needs are taken into account when working with them.

My name is I’a Louisa Tuagalu and I am a Social Worker at Auckland Hospital.

During my line of work I come across a lot of patients who require hospice care and family support. Amitabha Family Support has been an important resource for me to refer to, as a majority of my patients have not got the finances to hire their own support workers.

I have found this organisation prompt with all referrals I make them and easily accessible in times of crisis.

I believe that without Amitabha and their support to the families I refer to, there would be a great void which would be very hard to fill. I support Amitabha one hundred percent in their work and feel that they do invaluable work for all my clients.

In my roll as a Social Worker for community health, I have called upon the services offered by Amitabha Family Support for both disables and terminally ill clients.

I find this organisation to be easily accessible, responsive and keen to communicate on a mutually beneficial level.

The feedback I receive from clients, their care-givers and whanau is extremely positive, and the extra support and assistance offered, both physical and emotional, is often vital to the quality of life of clients.

My personal and professional experience of Amitabha is that this is a service being delivered at a high level of professionalism, integrity and excellence. The volunteers have proved to be well trained, screened and informed, and as much as able to deal with a wide variety of situations with respect for clients, whanau and other health professionals.

I have a great deal of respect and admiration for Amitabha as an organisation, and for the volunteers who are the soul of it, and I have no hesitation in recommending this service to clients and colleagues.

Especially appreciated has been the availability of Amitabha when other RHA contracted service providers have been unable to assist clients to the degree truly needed.
